My Old Life
I am working a minimum wage customer service job in my small hometown, living at home with my parents, unfulfilled and I don't know what to do with my life, other than the fact that I don't want to go to university. I want to find a way to progress in my career and live up to my potential.
I do have some hope, I am so grateful that I am not a materialistic person. I am so grateful that once I got my paycheck, I didn't spend all my paycheck.
This is a small part of the reason that I was able to have the balls to make the move that I did. The move of moving out of my hometown, escaping my comfort zone, booking my flight, and moving to the city without a job and trying to make it work.
Watch the video below:
If my situation sounds very similar to yours and you want to change your life for the better, here's exactly how I was able to do it (disclaimer - it's not as sexy as you would like):
Step 1: Build a Nest Egg (Confidence Fund)
Save up enough money to have 3 months worth of expenses.
For example, if your expected monthly expenses is $3000, aim to save up $9000.
This will give you enough time to land a job, find your long-term accommodation, and pay for expenses during the period where you have no income.
What if I don’t know what my monthly expenses will be?
1. Go on to the website Numbeo and search for the cost of living of the city that you want to move to for a single person and add 10% on top of that as a margin of safety.
2. After that, go on to share accommodation website and find multiple accommodations that you would move into and get an average on how much you will pay in rent per month.
Just having a nice chunk of change in the bank is going to give the biggest boost of confidence to make the move.
Step 2: Update Your Resume + Start Applying to Jobs
The best way I have found to update your resume the best is to use resume.co
Resume.co is an AI resume generator that optimises your resume so you will start getting interviews
Also, it customises your cover letters based on the job you are applying for and the resume you made
Optimise and update your job profiles for the largest job sites in your country
E.g. Use SEEK and Indeed if you are Australian
As part of your job application, employers will look at your profile since you did apply through that website.
Here's a snippet of my resume after I updated it using (resume.co)

Well Brandon, what job should I start applying for?
If you are working a minimum wage job like I did, such as customer service, the best jobs to start applying for are sales roles. Here's why:
Working in sales is the next level above customer service that doesn’t require you to have any experience. It's a skill where the better you get, the more money you can earn uncapped.
More importantly, if you know how to sell, you will never be homeless.
Step 3: Prepare, Prepare, Prepare
Out of the 6 interviews I went to for a sales role, these are most common interview questions I got asked:
#1: So, tell me about yourself?
#2: Why do you want to work for us?
#3: Why do you want to get into sales?
#4: Why should we hire you?
Along with having a prepared answer for each of these questions that I would practice memorising, here is my schedule that I had that allowed me to arrive in Brisbane on the 19th of October 2024 and be prepared for my first interview at 12:00pm that same day:

BONUS! The exact script I used to get accepted every single time!
This is the script I used for the most common question I ever got asked out of the 6 sales interviews I went too - "So, tell me about yourself?"
I am a diligent worker with the skills and qualities to match the job description. So, I have been in retail sales for x years and specialise in driving repeat business and enhancing customer satisfaction, by understanding my customer’s needs and solving their problems based on their needs. My proven ability to interact and deal with people in various situations, along with my eagerness to work extremely hard and constantly improve my sales skills will be a large asset to you and your clients moving forward. I believe I am a high achiever, and I've always received positive feedback from my employers in previous roles. If you hire me, I will be the type of worker who will always go above and beyond what is expected in my work. I will always embrace change positively, and I will make sure you see a positive return on your investment. Is this what ABC company is looking for?
Use this script and make sure to change it to suit your background and experience.
I guarantee you that if memorise this script word for word, you will get the job, unless of course you fumble the other interview questions. You won't though because I know you are the type of person who is prepared and intelligent, since you are still reading this post haha.
At What Point Do I Quit My Job?
Once you have a:
3 month confidence fund
Your 1st physical job interview lined up (I had 6 lined up)
You’ve booked your flight
Figured out your accommodation (short-term & your options for long-term)
Accommodation should be based close to where you would start working if you end up getting the job
Then you can quit your job!
Note: Make sure out of courtesy to give your boss enough notice (at least 1 week) before booking your flights, accommodation, etc.

Step 4: Book Your Flight + Plan Accommodation
Flights
Booking a flight is easier said than done
Booking your flight shows your commitment to quit your minimum wage job and moving to the city for good
If you do this step, massive respect to you bro

Accommodation
Have multiple options and apply to them before you get on your flight.
This is the BIG mistake I made. I thought I could just figure it out once I got there and I paid the price for it.
As you know, the city is expensive which may discourage you. At the same time, it doesn’t have to be if you use some common sense and find a room or live with a roommate instead of having your own spot.
As a guy, I am happy with a mattress on the floor and wifi. I’m sure that’s the case with you as well, especially if women didn't exist. By doing this, you are paying a lot less for rent, whilst making more money in the city than back in your hometown.
Step #5: Make a Goddamn Schedule
Schedule all of your interviews - it allows you to be as organised and prepared as possible
This is my schedule BEFORE landing a job in the city:
Also, this is my schedule AFTER landing a sales job in the city
Scheduling your week out in a military style way, which is difficult to follow ironically makes your life easier than not planning your week out.
IMPORTANT: Don’t get complacent once you get a job and find a place, otherwise you are just a rat chained to golden handcuffs instead of ordinary handcuffs.
Should you follow this schedule?
Now did I follow this schedule at all while I was in the city? Absolutely NOT!
I learned very quickly that I needed to make a schedule that I could follow for as long as possible, NOT a schedule that I could follow for a day or two.
My recommendation is to be honest with yourself and ask yourself if you could genuinely follow this schedule for a month's straight. If you believe you can't, DON'T follow it and make a schedule that you can follow for a month.
This schedule above is just showing what I planned to do and is NOT one you should 100% copy.
Step #6: Crush Your Interviews
Picture yourself doing so well in the interview(s) that you end up getting a job offer.
How would you speak? What would you say? How would you say it? How confident will you be? And be THAT GUY!
Believe in yourself - look back at anything you achieved in your life.
It can be as small as being able to figure out how to tie your shoelace. This practise helped boost my confidence.
Don’t put the person you are interviewing on a pedestal, or as someone to be intimidated by just because they have the title of ‘Operations Manager’.
See them as someone equal to you. The skills you offer are something they need more than you needing the job.
This comes easier once you do get more experienced in job interviews.
Where I Am Now & Where You Can Be As Well
I took the leap of faith, flew to a different state, and now I’m living in the city.
I am working in an entry level call center sales role, making ~$15,000 more per year than my last job. I feel amazing and proud of myself for having the balls to take the risk and leave my old life behind.
Living in the city for me allows me to live in an environment where there a loads of successful people (> 2 million population)
I know exactly where I want to go in life and now feel that I can make an impact in the world.
The Most Important Thing That Is Holding You Back
The only thing holding you back is your mindset and your self-image.
DO NOT come back to this video 1 year from now and you are still working the same job.
The last thing you want to be thinking is, “Damn, I wish I had listened to Brandon. Even though I am a lot smarter than he is”.
If you are still worried about making the leap, just remember that the worst case scenario is that you have to move back home and work a minimum wage job just like you are doing right now. So there is NO RISK.
If you do want to know how to help eliminate self doubt, improve your self-image, boost your confidence, and be a happier person, I highly recommend you read Psycho-Cybernetics. It changed my life, helped me crush my interviews and it will change your life as well.
